This garden escape is not native to Illinois but is often
found in slightly moist and shady areas such as lawn edges
or areas along woodland paths. It is a
bulbous
perennial
growing only 4–8 inches tall with two to
four strap-shaped leaves appearing in early spring, at the
same time as the nodding, blue, bell-shaped flowers. The
flowers have six petals and six stamens, and are arranged
singly or in racemes of two or three.
