 Stiff-Leaved Aster (Flax-Leaved Aster)
Ionactis linariifolius   [C-value 10]
Aster family (Asteraceae)
Blooms mid-September - mid-October

The native Stiff-Leaved Aster is rare in our area. It prefers full or partial sun and slightly dry acidic soil that is sandy or rocky. It might be found in high quality natural habitats. This perennial is ½–1½' tall with stems that are erect, ascending (or sprawling), with densely spaced linear untoothed alternate leaves, ¾–1½" long and 1/8" across. The central stem terminates in a small cluster of flowers. The daisy-like flowers are ¾–1¼" across and have 10-20 lavender or pale blue-violet ray florets and a similar number of disk florets that are bright yellow to orange-red later turning brown.
