 Shooting Star
Dodecatheon meadia   [C-value 6]
Primulaceae (Primrose family)
Blooms mid-April - June

The beautiful native Shooting Star is common in our area. It prefers full or partial sun and is only found in high quality habitats including moist to slightly dry black soil prairies, hill prairies and openings in upland forests. This perennial has a basal rosette of leaves (6" long and 2½" across) from which emerges one or more stalks of flowers. The green or red flowering stalk (about 1½' tall) from the rosette produces an umbel of 6-40 white, light pink or lavender or rosy pink flowers dangling downward.
