Cinnamon Willow-Herb (Purple-leafed Willow-Herb)
Epilobium coloratum   [C-value 3]
Evening Primrose family (Onagraceae)
Blooms July - mid-September

The native Cinnamon Willow-Herb is common in our area. It prefers full sun to light shade and wet to moist soil. Habitats include poorly drained areas of black soil prairies, marshes, bogs, fens and seeps. This is a fine-hairy branching perennial. 1-4' tall, with numerous purple-tinged veiny lance-shaped toothed leaves up to 4" long and ½" across, sometimes with purple veins or spots. From the upper axils of some of the upper leaves there appears a single 4-petaled light pink or white flower (1/3" across) on a long stick-like stalk.
