 Orange Hawkweed (Devil's Paintbrush)
Hieracium aurantiacum

Aster family (Asteraceae)
Blooms June - September

The non-native Orange Hawkweed is a European invasive that  has spread into our area from the north (in Minnesota it has taken over entire fields). It likes part shade to full sun and occurs in dry fields, roadsides and disturbed areas. It is an erect perennial with a central flower stem, 6-24" tall, emerging from a basal rosette of leaves 2-5" long and up to 1" wide. The leaves and stem are both covered in long hairs. At the apex of the stem is a compact cluster of 5 or more dandelion-like flowers on short hairy stalks. Each flower is ¾-1" across that is deep red-orange to orange to yellow-orange.
