 Trumpet Creeper (Trumpet Vine)
Campsis radicans

Trumpet Creeper family (Bignoniaceae)

Blooms July - mid-September

The non-native Trumpet Creeper is uncommon in our area. It prefers partial to full sun and medium-moist soils. Habitats include open woodlands, woodland edges, riverbanks, and roadsides. This perennial woody vine, up to 40' long, branches occasionally and usually climbs up trees, utility poles and other vertical structures. Pairs of opposite compound leaves occur along the length of the vine that are odd pinnate, with 7-11 coarsely toothed leaflets that are up to 3" long and 1" across. Short cymes of 2-8 flowers occur along the vine. The reddish-orange flowers are up to 3½" long and "trumpet-like" in appearance.
