 Carpetweed
Mollugo verticillata
Carpetweed family (Molluginaceae)

Blooms July - August

The non-native (tropical American) Carpetweed is common in our area. It prefers full or partial sun and medium-moist to dry conditions. Habitats include lawns and gardens, construction sites, roadsides and waste areas. It is a prostrate summer annual, branching at the base and forming a more or less circular mat up to 5" high. There are whorls of 3-8 leaves, up to 1½" long and ¼" across, at intervals along the stems. From the axils of the leaves, there are small clusters of 2-5 flowers. Each tiny 5-petal white flower is less than ¼" across.
