Honewort
(Canadian Honewort) The native Honewort is common in disturbed woodlands in our area. It prefers medium to light shade and moist to slightly moist loamy soil with decaying organic material. This perennial is 1-3' tall, unbranched toward the base, but branches occasionally in the upper half. The compound leaves are trifoliate with leaflets up to 4" long and 2" across, becoming smaller as they ascend the stems. The upper stems terminate in compound umbels of tiny white flowers. Each umbel divides into about 3-10 umbellets consisting of 3-10 tiny 5-petaled white flowers less than 1/8" across.
