Kendall County (IL) Forest Preserve District

Japanese Hedge Parsley
Torilis japonica
Carrot family (Apiaceae
)
Blooms mid-June - July

The non-native (Asian) Japanese Hedge Parsley is uncommon in our area. It is an invasive that could become a threat to our natural areas. It is very similar to the Common Hedge Parsley (Torilis arvensis) except the Japanese Hedge Parsley has about 8 linear bracts at the base of each compound flower umbel, and the bristles of its seeds have hooked tips.
