Late Boneset
(Lateflowering Thoroughwort) The native Late Boneset is common in our area. It prefers partial or full sun and moist loamy soil high in organic matter. Habitats include moist black soil prairies, moist meadows near streams, swamps and low-lying areas along roads. This perennial is 3-6' tall and unbranched. The opposite leaves are up to 7" long and 2½" across on petioles up to 1" long. They are lance-shaped, largely hairless and coarsely toothed with 5 veins that diverge from the base. The flat-topped inflorescence consists of numerous flowers, each with about 12 white florets. Each floret is about ¼" long, narrow and tubular.
