Shining Bedstraw
Galium concinnum  [C-value 5]
Madder family (Rubiaceae)
Blooms June - August

The native shining Bedstraw is common in our area. It prefers light shade and medium moist to dry conditions. Habitats include upland woodlands and woodland edges where deciduous trees, especially oaks, are present. This perennial is 4-20" tall, branching occasionally with weak branching stems that have a tendency to lean on adjacent vegetation. At intervals along the stems, there are whorls of 6  leaves that are medium to dark green, hairless, untoothed and shiny. The upper stems usually terminate in large abundantly branched panicles of flower groups, each with 2 or 3 white 4-petaled flowers, about 1/8" across, on short pedicels.
