Kendall County (IL) Forest Preserve District Common Tansy The non-native (European) Common Tansy is uncommon in our area. It prefers full or partial sun and moist to slightly dry conditions. Habitats include edges of prairies and fields, pastures, weedy meadows and areas along roads. This perennial is 2-4' tall and branching occasionally with alternate leaves up to 12" long and 4" across that are double or triple pinnately-lobed with a fern-like appearance. The upper stems terminate in flat clusters of 20-200 yellow flat-topped flowers shaped like buttons, each about 1/3" across with numerous yellow disk florets (no ray florets). Each disk floret is narrowly tubular with 5 lobes that are upright rather than spreading when fully open.
