The native Partridge Pea is rare in our area. It prefers full sun and medium to dry moisture. Habitats include medium to dry black soil prairies, savannas, limestone glades and roadsides. This annual is 6"-2' tall and branching occasionally with alternate compound leaves, medium to dark green, with up to 20 leaflets about 2/3" long and 1/3" across which are somewhat sensitive to touch. The bright yellow flowers, about 1" across with 5 rounded petals, appear along the major stems near leaf axils.
