Swamp Tickseed (Three-lobed Beggarticks)
Bidens tripartita   [C-value 5]
Aster family (Asteraceae)
Blooms July - September

The native Swamp Tickseed is common in our area. It prefers part shade to sun and wet to moist soils. Habitats include wet meadows, wet areas along streams or ponds and wet ditches. This branching annual is 1-4' tall with opposite, 3-parted, toothed, wing-stemmed leaves that are 2-4" long and ¾-1½" wide. The stems terminate in 1 to 3 stalked flowerheads, each ½-¾" across with numerous yellow disk florets. The head is surrounded by 5-13 leafy bracts up to 2" long and ½" wide. The flowers later produce seeds with 2-4 pronged burs.
