Wild Golden Glow (Cutleaf Coneflower)
Rudbeckia laciniata   [C-value 5]
Aster family (Asteraceae)
Blooms July - September

The native Wild Golden Glow is common in our area. It prefers partial sun, moist conditions, and fertile loam. Habitats include open bottomland forests, moist meadows in wooded areas, moist thickets and low areas along streams or ponds. This perennial is 3-8' tall and branching occasionally in the upper half. The alternate leaves are up to 12" long and 12" across, becoming gradually smaller as they ascend the stems, and have a tendency to droop. The lower coarsely toothed leaves have 3-7 large elliptic-shaped lobes and some have a pair of basal leaflets along with the lobed terminal leaflet. The upper stems terminate in either individual or cyme-like clusters of flowers on stalks 2" or more in length. Each flower spans about 2-3" across with a central cone of numerous light green to yellow tubular disk florets surrounded by 6-12 bright yellow drooping ray florets.
